Olek, NYC Crocheter, Made Us a Present!

Earlier today we mentioned that Olek had gotten in touch to tell us she'd left a little something for us. Well, we found it, chained up outside of VV HQ! Like the cart she crocheted on Wall Street, it also advises not stealing from the public. Don't worry, Olek, the Village Voice is free!

OMG. OMG. OMG. Oprah, yeah, that Oprah, is letting us glimpse into her very personal Oprah world to see what the budding Oprah, she who would be the Oprah that we all know and love, was about! She has shared five whole pages from her "hand-written" (how else would they be written?) extra personal secret-time special-lady journals, publishing them in the April issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. In them, she gives us some totally PG stuff about her first boyfriend --

Only Reasonable Explanation for Blue Dot Sighted Over Brooklyn? UFO. Definitely UFO.

UFO! Or...something.
Queens Crap alerts us to this rather entertaining local newscast from Fox. It seems that Brooklyn man Phil DePaolo happened upon an intriguing, mysterious blue light in the sky above Williamsburg while walking his dog on Sunday night, and, of course, filmed it and put the clip on YouTube, because that is what people do! The most amusing part of this clip is Rosanna Scotto's suspicion that DePaolo had to have been drunk, showing her outright ignorance regarding the types of "lights in the sky" one sees while drinking.

Man Does Very Gross Thing on F-Train

There are certain things we post as news, certain things we post as warnings, certain things we post as cautionary tales, and certain things we post because, well, they're just gross, and sort of funny at the same time. This video from The Smoking Gun of a man going spelunking, finding a gem, and then wiping it, devil-may-care, on the inside wall of an F-train fits too many of the aforementioned criteria not to post (click the link for the video). Perhaps the best part is the haggard "Hey, I'm just commuting" look on the guy's face next to him. Apologies, and don't do this. Additionally disturbing: "man picks nose subway" yields an astounding number of YouTube results. Breaking: People are gross. [via The Awl]

Eric Adams, Brooklyn State Senator, Teaches Parents to Spy, Narc on Kids

teddybeardrugs.jpg
Eric Adams, who was an NYPD officer for 22 years before becoming a state senator (you may remember him from the campaign to end saggy pants), has released a video instructing parents on how to find potential drug and gun paraphernalia in their kiddos' rooms and backpacks. There are many places your sneaky children may be hiding drugs, or bullets -- from inside doll clothes to perfume bottles to cameras, and even behind framed photos. Adams will release the video to churches and schools to try to help reduce street violence.

Brooklyn Woman Cannot Stop Putting Fur Coats Up Her Skirt

rsz_fur_coat2.jpg
The New York Post has an exciting exclusive today that they call "Fur Stuffer" or, for the more literal, "Thief Who Puts Furs Under Clothes Nabbed Again." In it, they detail the many crimes of a Brooklyn woman who steals fur coats by stuffing them into a bag strapped to her belt and hidden under her skirt -- and sometimes by stuffing them into her girdle.

Viral Cross-Country Love Letter "I Hope This Gets to You" Got to Her (Updated: The Girlfriend Speaks!)

love_letter_writting-2.jpg
Oh, it makes us happy when something works out! As you may know, earlier this week we posted about a man's attempt to send a YouTube love letter (a song he helped write with his friends, members of The Daylights, then directed and filmed and sent off by tweet) to his girlfriend, an MBA student at Duke. The hitch: He would do it via the Internet. None of their friends were allowed to tell her about it; she was to discover it all on her own, randomly. (He even blocked her from his Twitter.) And...it happened!

Local Girl Uses Internet, Gets Stolen Bike Back in Voice Writer-Assisted Sting

In proof that good things happen to industrious, Internet-using people, and that sometimes cops, too, are a force to be reckoned with (in a good way), here's our favorite story of the day thus far. Brooklyn novelist Jami Attenberg went to the Arcade Fire/Spoon show last night, biking to the Marcy J/M/Z station and locking her transport there before subwaying to Madison Square Garden. Alas, when she got back later in the evening, the bike was gone.
