It's Kind Of Hard To Be White, Says CNN

Just as National Geographic informs us that the average person is a 28-year-old Chinese male with no cell phone, CNN inquires, "Are whites racially oppressed?" The answer is obviously "no, stop talking," but the whole article is too credulous, worryingly so, giving a pretty nice platform to some crazy ideas, even if only to debunk them (rather tenderly). "We went from being a privileged group to all of a sudden becoming whites, the new victims,'' says a sociologist. "You have this perception out there that whites are no longer in control or the majority. Whites are the new minority group." It goes on way too long from there.

The joke possibilities are endless, but we'll leave it to Jay Leno: fact is, Kathleen Parker has departed the show half named after her, CNN's Parker Spitzer, after only four, under-performing months. Starting on Monday, the show will be called In The Arena, "an ensemble program," which still will not beat Fox News or MSNBC (or probably HLN -- did you know there was a channel called HLN?) in the 8 p.m. time-slot. Eliot Spitzer, our disgraced former governor, is still employed, for now. More on the split inside a rainy Friday edition of Press Clips, our daily media round-up. Brisenia Flores Murder Makes CNN, Still Nothing From the New York Times

Why isn't the murder of 9-year-old Brisenia Flores and her father, allegedly at the hands of anti-immigration vigilantes in Arizona, a national news story, we wondered on Friday afternoon. The trial of Shawna Forde, who prosecutors say led the raid of the Flores home to steal drug money, began last week and outlets like the Arizona Daily Star and The Daily Beast had reporters on the ground. But much of the mainstream media ignored it altogether, including both CNN and the New York Times. Eventually, the Beast and local paper were joined the ABC News, the Los Angeles Times, Britain's Daily Mail and a host of bloggers, acknowledging the newsworthiness of the trial. Now, CNN is finally getting into the action.

A five-story walk-up at 86 West 3rd that happens to be newsworthy since Anderson Cooper is renovating the firehouse next door as his pad -- but keeping the fire poles! -- caught fire rather ironically (a/k/a, next to a firehouse) in the early hours of the morning today, reports DNA Info. No one was injured, though windows were blown out and glass shattered in front of Il Mulino, located on the ground floor of the building.
