Nikki Finke Photo Is Not Her, Says Nikki Finke, And It's Ugly; Did The Daily Do It For Buzz?

Finke?
Rupert Murdoch's iPad newspaper The Daily got its first attention for exclusive content (save a semi-viral James Franco graphic) this morning when it published a picture purported to be of Nikki Finke, the infamous Hollywood blogger and recluse behind Deadline.com, who refuses to be photographed and rarely leaves her house. But knowing full well they'd face opposition and threats of litigation from the notoriously batty Finke, they couched the coup in questions: "Is this the most powerful woman in Hollywood?" Now, the plot thickens: Finke says it's not her and so does her contemporary, The Wrap's Sharon Waxman. Did The Daily knowingly publish a photo of not-Finke on purpose, just for the attention? Find out inside Press Clips, our daily media column. Plus, Gawker editors embarrass themselves on Twitter! As always, tips (and complaints!) are welcome.

Nikki Finke Photo From The Daily Looks Legit

nikki_finke.jpg
Yesterday, we expounded on the saga of Nikki Finke, the uber-powerful Hollywood blogger behind Deadline.com, who refuses to be photographed and rarely leaves her house. She's also known to throw around threats, like negative coverage or worse, a blackout, for studios and websites should they dare to cross her. Only two photographs of Finke are known to exist, one from the 1970s and one (to the right) way outdated. Still, Finke's role in the world of Hollywood gossip is central -- HBO is even making a show based on her. Today, after years of coming up empty for various gossip reporters, Rupert Murdoch's new iPad newspaper, The Daily, has published a photo they claim to be Finke. See it below and decide for yourself.

Nikki Finke Fighting The Daily Over Photo

nikki_finke.jpg
Nikki Finke, the fearsome Hollywood blogger behind the rich Deadline sites, is important enough to have an HBO show created in her image. She's also been called the most "despised and uncompromising journalist in Hollywood," breaking a lot of industry news, but just as often making enemies, yelling at reporters, sources and stars alike, holding grudges and (allegedly) being all around insufferable. Perhaps as a result, she stays behind her computer, and is never spotted in the wild. Only two pictures of her exist online: a black-and-white author photo (right) and a shot from college in the 1970s. But Rupert Murdoch's new iPad newspaper, The Daily, claims to have a new exclusive. More on the photographic drama, plus more digital news from Murdoch's New York Post inside our daily media round-up, Press Clips.

What Nikki Finke's Agreement With HBO for Tilda Actually Is

340x_0518_nikki.jpg
Speculation regarding iron-fisted, cantankerous Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke's involvement with HBO's forthcoming show Tilda -- which concerns an iron-fisted, cantankerous Hollywood blogger played by Glenn Close -- has run the scale from completely mystified, undue speculation to speculation on the potential legal violations and ramifications about it, and speculation beyond that. Today, Finke opened up on her involvement with Tilda on her site.

Shots Returned! Nikki Finke Responds to Director Joe Carnahan's FinkeRage Video

340x_0518_nikki.jpg
Last night, we reported on a video made by The A-Team director Joe Carnahan in which he trashes on notorious Deadline Hollywood Daily blogger Nikki Finke, calling her a "fuckin' moron." Charming! Finke responded in kind this morning by noting "poor" Joe Carnahan "who's now officially unhireable as a director." It looks like some of Carnahan's supporters/fans/scared assistants went into Finke's comments to defend him. Fun times! [FK]

Video: Shots Fired! Bitter A-Team Director Joe Carnahan Angrily Calls Out Nikki Finke

340x_0518_nikki.jpg
Wow. Deadline Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke rules the film industry news cycle with an iron fist/"publish" button. There are plenty of things to say about Finke -- and people have -- but you can't say she minces words. Aside from what used to be routine needling on Gawker, or a wayward joke on Entourage, though, Nikki Finke's detractors -- where they are elsewhere -- aren't too vocal...or at least not like this. Enter the director of such critically acclaimed, quality fare as Smokin' Aces, Narc, and most recently The A-Team, Joe Carnahan. Who went off on Finke in a recent video-interview.

Is Nikki Finke in Violation of FTC Blogger Laws with Tilda?

340x_0518_nikki.jpg
Maybe you haven't heard, but HBO's new show, Tilda, concerns one "Tilda Watski [who] is the most feared woman in Hollywood because her website, The Daily Circus (header: "Founder and Editor Tilda Watski"), takes aim at the town's most powerful moguls." Which, among other details, sounds like Deadline Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke! And if you're Finke, and someone's making a TV show about your life, you're gonna wanna get paid for it. Which, according to THR, Esq., she's tried to.

So if Finke is, in fact, now being paid by HBO as a consultant on Tilda, do Deadline Hollywood's news exclusives on the show require a disclosure?
