NY Pol Knocks Gays, Whores And Politicians In Single Campaign Mailer

This is an actual campaign mailer distributed by an Upstate politician.
Whether you're gay, a politician, or a whore, some aspect of a campaign mailer (pictured above) distributed on behalf of a New York State Senate candidate probably will piss you off.

Problem is, we're not sure which group should be most offended -- the politicians for getting compared to whores, the whores for getting compared to politicians, or the gays for getting thrown in the middle.

What Does Being LGBT (Or Wanting to Get Gay Married) Have to Do with Gambling?

Like GLAAD promoting a telecom merger, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force has wound up in the dubious position of weighing in on gambling, a not terribly LGBT-specific issue.

Chris Geidner at BuzzFeed has been beating down the path of a fascinating story over this past week, exploring how and why the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force has gotten involved with the issue of gambling in Maryland. His latest post reports that an anonymous source funded a gaming mailer sent to Maryland Democrats on behalf of the task force's lobbying arm.

We feel like we've been to this rodeo before. In our Voice Pride Issue feature, we asked, "What does a telecom merger have to do with fighting gay defamation?" as we reflected upon how and why the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) supported a proposed AT&T merge with T-Mobile. And now, we must ask, what does being LGBT have to do with gambling in Maryland?

Our colleagues at the Phoenix New Times had the story of the holiday weekend for anyone interested in Republicans, homopolitics, outing, immigration, and other sundry subjects we love to write about. Monica Alonzo's gripping tale of how Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu allegedly threatened his Mexican ex-boyfriend "Jose" with deportation if he didn't keep his mouth as tightly sealed about their relationship as the Tea Party wishes the border was led to Babeu outing himself and resigning from the Romney campaign.

Democrats and gay activists laughed at the hypocrisy of gay Babeu supporting a party and candidates that consistently deny LGBT Americans like him access to equal rights under civil law. The schadenfreude about Babeu in our twitter stream was as heavy-handed as the way Babeu was fondling "Jose's" right pec inside his shirt.

But just a few paragraphs from the end of Alonzo's story was this gem (h/t to Joe My God for pointing this out), which could provide a lot of gay drama for a Democrat in what will surely be one of the most watched congressional races in the country this fall:
