Alleged rapist/convicted sex offender Jonathan Stewart

A convicted sex offender accused of violently raping a woman at Hudson River Park last month told police that he doesn't know if he raped the woman because he'd consumed five Four Lokos before the attack -- but that was only after drinking vodka and smoking weed and K-2, a brand of synthetic marijuana.

Four Loko is a booze-infused energy drink that has been banned in Washington state and at several universities following a plethora of cases of blackouts and alcohol poisoning credited to the drink. Four Loko, however, is not a recognized legal defense for rape.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance announced yesterday that Jonathan Stewart has been formally indicted on charges of predatory sexual assault, rape in the first degree, criminal sexual act in the first degree, and sexual abuse in the first degree for the September 22 rape.

New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio says NYPD "blind spots" are partially to blame for a recent spike in sexual assaults in city parks. To fix the problem, de Blasio says the cops need to start tallying park-crime data.

De Blasio's suggestion comes just days after a 31-year-old woman was nearly raped by a homeless man after she fell asleep on a bench in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. She managed to get away from her attacker and call police.

"This fifth alleged sexual assault has us all questioning whether we have the right resources and the right strategy to prevent these crimes in our parks. Ending this latest wave of attacks begins with getting real data on crime in our parks system--information we still don't have on most parks, Tompkins Square Park included," de Blasio says. "The NYPD and Parks Department need to fix these blind spots immediately as a first step to preventing another attack."

This is Pennsylvania Senate candidate Tom Smith. This afternoon he compared rape to having a child out of wedlock (sigh).

Here's some free advice for Republican Senate candidates: stop talking about rape! Even if a reporter tries to bait you into it with some sort of rape-y/abortion question, just say "my Republicanism guarantees that I will somehow fuck this up and come across looking like an insensitive prick. So no -- I will not answer your rape question."

That -- or just about anything -- would have been better than what happened when GOP Pennsylvania Senate hopeful Tom Smith was asked about GOP Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin's idiotic comments last week about women having the magical ability to biologically end a pregnancy if the child is the product of "legitimate rape."

Nope, Smith answered the question (sigh) -- and ultimately explained that having a child out of wedlock is "similar" to rape (double sigh).

Bawar Aksal allegedly shoved his hand down the pants of a sleeping woman on an airplane earlier this week. The charges against him are slightly more serious than "bad manners."

Over the weekend, a British member of parliament made the argument that having sex with a woman as she sleeps isn't rape. He concedes, however, that it is "bad manners."

Well, we've got some news for MP George Galloway: sex with a sleeping woman is still a sex crime -- and we have proof.

A Turkish man living in New Jersey was arrested earlier this week for allegedly feeling up a female passenger on a flight from Phoenix to Newark as she slept in the seat next to him.

According to federal prosecutors, Bawar Aksal was arrested Monday after he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

Those were the words we were shocked to hear this morning when we spoke to a pro-life Christian leader about the idiotic comments made by Congressman Todd Akin about women being able to magically end a pregnancy when they're the victims of "legitimate rape."

Pastor Robert Fleischmann is the national director for the Christian Life Resources, a Jesus-y type group "intended to educate on the value and sanctity of human life."

Fleischmann penned an essay posted on the group's website yesterday that -- at first glance -- seems to defend Akin's moronic ramblings. That, he explains to the Voice, is not the case.

The Todd Akin "legitimate rape" saga wages on, but the Missouri Senate hopeful has some competition in the "dumbest rape comment" department.

Enter British MP George Galloway, who said -- amongst other idiotic bumblings -- over the weekend that having sex with a woman while she sleeps isn't rape, it's just "bad sexual etiquette."

He went further, noting that "not everybody needs to be asked prior to each insertion."

Akin, as we're sure you're aware, raised a stir with his belief that "From what I understand from doctors...if it's a legitimate rape the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing (pregnancy) down. But let's assume that maybe that didn't work, or something..."

Let's not "assume" anything -- as you know, women don't possess some magical power to wish away a pregnancy.

Unlike his apparent understanding of how abortion works, baby making at the home of Congressman Todd Akin does NOT involve wishing or magic.

Despite making a complete jackass out of himself with his comments that "legitimate" rape victims have the magical ability to wish away their unwanted rape babies, Congressman Todd Akin announced this afternoon that he plans to remain in the Missouri Senate race against Senator Claire McCaskill -- even as member of his own party are urging him to call it quits.

To celebrate what we can only hope will be a few more months of Akin idiocy, we bring you a video of a speech Akin gave to a group of Missouri Tea Party-ers last year, during which Akin -- and his wife -- explain how babies are made at the Akin household.

Don't worry, Akin steps in before things get too pervy, but the Akin-approved baby-making process apparently involves him, his wife, her womb, and the home the two share.

Unlike Akin's apparent understanding of how abortion works, it does not include wishing, magic, or a woman's body's inexplicable (read: non-existent) ability to tell the difference between a rape baby and a baby conceived with a consensual partner.

It's officially "Make Stupid Comments About Rape Week" for politicians, and the festivities have jumped across the pond to Great Britain, where folks are known for their impeccable manners -- and a member of Parliament recently said that having sex with a woman while she sleeps isn't rape, it's just "bad sexual etiquette."

British MP George Galloway goes further, noting that "not everybody needs to be asked prior to each insertion."

Attention, Todd Akin: do yourself a favor and just shut up.

Just to clear up any confusion -- and despite what doctors may or may not (but definitely haven't) have told him -- GOP Senate hopeful Todd Akin conceded this afternoon that woman don't have the power to miraculously end a pregnancy if the father of the baby is a rapist.

He also clarified his comments that "If it's legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut [the pregnancy] down" by claiming that by "legitimate rape" he means "forcible rape" -- something he should try to explain to a rape victim with whom we spoke this morning.

Unfortunately for Akin, who's running for Senate in Missouri against Senator Clare McCaskill, science disagrees with his belief that woman can just wish away unwanted rape babies, which forced him to step away from his moronic ramblings during an appearance on Mike Huckabee's radio show this afternoon.
