Okay, we were all worried about 16-year-old Abby Sunderland, who was trying to sail around the world by herself and went missing in the Indian Ocean after losing satellite phone contact on Thursday, triggering a rescue effort. And a lot of us took out that worry on her parents. But, we can all rest a little easier now, because she's been found by a search plane and is A-OK.

Bernie Madoff's Family Changes Name to That of a Famous Pirate

madoff-jail150.jpg

America's most notorious Ponzi family are now calling themselves "the Morgans." At least some of the Madoff clan have adopted that name: Stephanie Madoff, second wife of Bernie Madoff's son Mark Madoff, has gone to court for the name change for her and her kids Audrey and Nicholas.

The Post calls the new name "far less controversial," but it's a rum choice and not really a change but more of a synonym. The most famous "Morgan" brand name in the world — Captain Morgan rum — derives directly from Captain Henry Morgan, one of the most dangerous 17th century Caribbean pirates and the inspiration for numerous books and movies.

ussny_about01.jpg
The USS New York, which contains 7.5+ tons of steel salvaged from the wreckage at Ground Zero, invited visitors on board for the first time this weekend. Northrup Grumman employees were allowed to bring family and friends aboard the New York, which has been under construction since 2004 at Northrup's New Orleans-area Avondale shipyard. The ship will be will be leaving Louisiana for New York on Oct. 13, and will be commissioned here on Nov. 7.

The San Antonio-class amphibious New York, which is dedicated to New York and new yorkers, is also the first of three ships to be dedicated by the Navy to the victims of 9/11. The Somerset will be named after the county where Flight 93 went down in PA, and the Arlington after the country which contains the Pentagon.

The New York was under construction during Hurricane Katrina, but was not damaged.

Please disregard the explosions

The NYPD is letting us know that the Half Moon and the Onrust (pictured) will be firing salutes when they pass a Royal Dutch Navy ship in the harbor today at 11 and 11:03.

I confidently expect that this will be an occasion for next-day stories about how jumpy new yorkers are since 9/11, and that someone in the financial district will dutifully provide a quote to that effect.

Luckily, we've been warned, so it won't be us.

Turns out the submarine discovered in the harbor Friday afternoon was an art project. Of course it was.

Riley, a 35-year-old graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and Pratt Institute, was cited by the Coast Guard for a number of violations. Charges from the NYPD are still pending.

Some times the news in New York City is just so astounding that you don't know what to make of it. The details of this one should be interesting. The cops are saying it wasn't terrorism. Our money is on hipsters. Here's the NYPD's initial report:

At approximately 1030 hours this morning (8-3-07) a detective assigned to the NYPD Intelligence Division did observe 2 unauthorized vessels approaching a security zone around the Queen Mary that was docked in Red Hook Brooklyn. Shortly Police Commissioner Ray Kelly released the following statement:
