Happy National Condom Day! Find Free Condoms With a Phone App

pr003-11-image1.gif
It's Feb. 14 -- the best day of the year!

No, of course we don't mean Valentine's Day (ew.)

It's National Condom Awareness Day -- and 2012's holiday has gotten even more special for you and your special lady or man-friend: New York City's Department of Public Health and Mental Hygiene is releasing a version of the mobile phone app for Windows phones and BlackBerries today that will point you to the nearest pro-bono prophylactics. And it's free! (Before it was just for iPhones and Androids.)

How does the program work?

The app determines users' location via GPS technology and then gives specific directions to venues that offer the free NYC Condoms throughout the five boroughs -- including the sites' hours and what other safe-sex products these locations offer.

Two Thirds of Single People Have Given Up on Sex (on Valentine's Day, at Least)

HEARTZ.png
Only one third of singles expect to get laid on Valentine's Day -- about the same number that Facebook stalk their exes, a new study reveals.

The survey of 515 self-identified singles, conducted by Facebook dating app Areyouinterested.com, finds that 33 percent plan on winding up in bed on what's marketed as the most commercialized romantic day of the year. (Gross.)

Apparently, singles are not deterred by blind dates -- 74 percent would totally meet up with a stranger "indicating singles are not intimidated by the romantic pressure the holiday typically brings."

Uh-Oh: You Might Have an STD! The Whole World Might Know, Too

stds.png
Love is supposed to be everlasting. Unfortunately for many, the only permanent thing to come out of a relationship is an incurable sexually transmitted disease.

And that's why Cyrus Sullivan, of Portland, Ore., claims that he runs STD Carriers Disease Control and Prevention Services, a website that lists claimed and confirmed carriers by their names, locations, descriptions, and sometimes their photos.

The database is completely open to the public -- you don't have to login to browse the listings, and many of the recently added carriers' pics are displayed prominently on the site's front page. Users submit photos freely. There are about 1,500 listings.

From the workmanlike design and sluggish flash slideshow and bizarre comparisons between Pearl Harbor's "hostile Asian men" and STD awareness, you might get the impression that Sullivan, who also runs an online reputation-management business, operates with a tongue-in-cheek M.O.

And you'd be wrong: Sullivan is for real and his work (for better or for worse) is heartfelt, -- and he has updated his site just in time for Valentine's Day.

From the mission statement: "It is our goal that by promoting the sharing of information that we can ultimately protect you health from dangerous diseases while protecting your civil liberties and providing quality entertainment."

Oh boy.

Anthony Weiner, Sexting Ex-Pol, Paid Private Eyes to Investigate Tallywacker Tweet

weinercatspi-thumb-220x165.jpg
Anthony Weiner, the sext-loving, dick-pic tweeting, disgraced former congressman, used some $13,000 campaign money for damage control.

The Daily News says that Weiner paid private detectives to investigate the bogus claim that his Twitter account had been hacked, before he owned up to sending the porny photo and resigned.

Mayor Bloomberg Refers to His and Diana Taylor's 'Pillow Talk'

mike-bloomberg pillow talk.jpg
Mike Bloomberg's girlfriend Diana Taylor happens to sit on the board of directors of Brookfield Office Properties, the company that owns Zuccotti Park. This has raised some eyebrows, given Brookfield's tense relationship with the protesters occupying its property and the way the mayor and the company have gone back and forth over their eviction.

But Bloomberg says he and Taylor don't talk about Brookfield. More specifically, he told the AP that "I can tell you that pillow talk in our house is not about Occupy Wall Street or Brookfield Properties." Pillow talk! Noooo.

Traci Nobles, Anthony Weiner Sextee, Is Publishing a Book

traci-nobles-anthony-weiner.jpg
Traci Nobles, the cheerleading coach from Georgia who is one of Anthony Weiner's former sexting partners, is publishing a book. Of course. It's called I Freinded You [sic], and claims to contain real text message exchanges between Nobles and Weiner. In some of those text messages, Weiner complains about his wife Huma Abedin's parents and unfavorably compares her sexually to Nobles. Oh, and brags about masturbating in the House of Representatives' bathroom. As if the embarrassment for Abedin, who's due to give birth next year, could get any worse.

Another "Sex is Over" Trend Piece Rears Its Ugly Head

samantha jones .jpg
Samantha can't believe this nonsense.
Again, this is happening. The "Sex is Over" trend piece is back in a new incarnation, and it still sucks. To recap: first we had the Observer, then that mind gem from Meg Wolitzer, and now another Times piece, this time by Erica Jong. "Is Sex Passé?" Jong asks, causing this blogger to laugh out loud because are they seriously trying this one again. Let us be clear: sex is not over, it is not "passé," and people are still having it. Is eating passé? Is breathing passé? Is the New York Times' opinion content passé?

Parents of Some Teens Now Think It's Cool for Them to Have Sex at Home

rsz_dylanbrenda.jpg
Jim and Cindy would not approve.
Today in yucko parenting trends reported by Good Morning America: some parents are letting their teenagers have sex at home! This is because the home is a presumably safer environment, where there are condoms, and it's clean, and...parents are around? Plus, kids are going to do it anyway. So, what's really wrong with this? Well, for all the practical reasons a parent might come up with for why it would be better for their teen to have sex at home than, say, out in the woods where they might be slain by an ax murderer and possibly pick up ticks, there's still the cold, hard reality that teens and parents do not and should not want to think about each other having sex. That's just biological.

Your Cab Driver Might Be Documenting Your Taxi PDA

taxiride20202.jpg
Kashmir Hill at Forbes presents a helpful reminder today. While the back of a cab may seem private and your personal space and whatnot, it actually is not. And, in fact, your cab driver may have a phone (of course he or she does) that he may be using to document your misbehavior, should you have any. Hill was in a cab at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and started talking to her driver, who, after learning that she was a reporter, started to share his wild cab-driving tales. He showed her his phone, in which there there were some...special images captured. Of passengers.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn Also Put Moves On Two Hotel Workers and a Flight Attendant

Dominique-Strauss-Kahn.jpg
Dominique Strauss-Kahn cast a wider net last week than we thought. He reportedly tried to lure two hotel employees to his suite at the Sofitel New York, and following his alleged assault on a maid, he lewdly hit on a flight attendant. This was following the alleged assault. In New York Post-ese, "This frog was one horny toad."
