Jon Stewart Questions New York's Priorities: Sweet Corn Before Same-Sex Marriage?

Yesterday we questioned just what the New York State Senate was doing addressing issues like horse racing, tightrope walking and the Miss Chinese New York pageant during their extended summer session, while leaving important issues like rent control and, oh, marriage equality for the very, very end. Jon Stewart wondered the same thing -- but with better jokes -- last night on The Daily Show. Sweet corn is now our official state vegetable, in case you were wondering what they've been doing up there.

Jon Stewart Says His Fox News Bias Argument With Chris Wallace Was Edited All Wrong

"I suggest you look at the unedited version online, where my emotional states don't seem to change so arbitrarily," said Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night, his first show since exclaiming, "You're insane!" at Fox News host Chris Wallace on Sunday. Stewart, of course, said more about the state of the media, on bias and sensationalism, with the "insane" quip coming out as his soundbitiest soundbite, and that's precisely why he wants everyone to watch the full chat, which can be seen here. But that's not all!More >>

Jon Stewart Needles Old Buddy Anthony Weiner

"I was hoping he would have a very clear and strong, reasonable-seeming explanation -- that hasn't necessarily happened so far," Jon Stewart said, with extra-torturous language, on The Daily Show last night, about his close friend (and college roommate!) Anthony Weiner, the New York congressman who "can't say with certitude" if his dick is all over the Internet. Friends or not, Stewart refuses to suck any... just watch. And as a bonus, after the jump, Stewart takes on Sarah Palin's pizza time.More >>

Jon Stewart Takes On Terrorist Screenings for 9/11 First Responders

On last night's Daily Show, host Jon Stewart absolutely eviscerated the amendment proposed to the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Law, which says that before first responders receive medical benefits, they must first be screened by the F.B.I. to assure they're not terrorists. More >>

In the race to politicize the killings in Arizona at the hands of Jared Loughner, amid blame and spin and false equivalencies, it's alarming what is made secondary, namely that people lost their lives, and some in the name of public service. It raises many questions that might not have answers. "How do you make sense of these types of senseless situations?" Jon Stewart asked last night on The Daily Show, in an episode where no one will recall any joke. "I don't know if there is a way to make sense of this senseless thing." He did not lecture and he skipped any smugness. He just spoke, and as winding and answer-less as it seemed, it was a comfort. More >>
