• It seems you are either missing or avoiding Christgau's full point about the impact of the net. He's been around for several major 'changings of the guard' and is not simply bemoaning the fact that a new bunch is taking over. He's saying that opinions are so protean, in the current climate, that albums that are as strong as, or stronger, than previously recognised albums, by the same artist, are being ignored because the 'blogsphere' has moved on. Making fad trump execution. Trend dis achievement. And he offers examples: Four Tet, Franz Ferdinand, 50 Cent. Me, I never liked artists getting a free pass but, having critics be unaccountable for their own pronouncements is worse. It cuts the bottom out of critisism's pail. This all feeds my suspicion/knowledge that many critics aren't really LISTENING.
